Playwright Studio by AIQEAcademy — Chrome Browser Extension

Last updated: April 11, 2026  ·  Effective date: January 1, 2025

🔒
Plain-English Summary

Playwright Studio operates entirely within your browser. It does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your personal data, browsing activity, or test code. Everything stays on your machine.

1. Who We Are

This Privacy Policy applies to the Playwright Studio Chrome browser extension ("the Extension"), developed and maintained by AIQEAcademy ("we", "us", "our"). AIQEAcademy is operated by Srikanth Srinivas, based in McKinney, Texas, United States.

For privacy questions or concerns, contact us at: privacy@aiqeacademy.com

2. What Playwright Studio Does

Playwright Studio is a developer tool for quality assurance engineers. It provides:

  • Action Recorder — records user interactions on web pages to generate Playwright test scripts
  • Network Mock Studio — intercepts and mocks HTTP/HTTPS network requests within the DevTools panel
  • Assertion Builder — generates Playwright assertions by inspecting DOM elements
  • In-browser Test Runner — executes recorded tests directly within the browser

All processing occurs locally within your browser. The Extension does not have a backend server. No data leaves your device.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

We want to be explicit. Playwright Studio does not collect, store, transmit, or share:

  • Your personal identity (name, email, location, IP address)
  • Browsing history or visited URLs
  • The content of web pages you visit
  • Network request payloads or response bodies
  • Recorded test code or assertions you create
  • Any data entered into web forms
  • Credentials, passwords, or authentication tokens
  • Cookies or session data from any website
  • Financial or payment information
  • Device identifiers, hardware information, or OS details
  • Crash reports or diagnostic data
  • Usage statistics or analytics of any kind

4. Permissions Explained

The Chrome Web Store requires extensions to declare permissions. Here is exactly why Playwright Studio requests each permission and how it is used:

activeTab
Allows the Extension to interact with the currently active tab when you explicitly open the DevTools panel. Used to inspect DOM elements for the Assertion Builder and to inject the recorder script. Never used passively or in the background.
debugger
Required to attach to Chrome's DevTools Protocol (CDP) for the Network Mock Studio. This allows interception of network requests within the active DevTools session only. The debugger is only attached when the DevTools panel is open and you explicitly activate a mock rule. It detaches immediately when DevTools is closed.
storage
Stores your recorded test scripts, mock rules, and extension settings locally in Chrome's storage on your device only (chrome.storage.local). This data is never synced to any remote server. It remains on your machine and is deleted when you uninstall the Extension or clear extension data.
scripting
Required to inject the action recording script into the active tab when you start a recording session. The script captures clicks, form inputs, and navigation events and returns them to the DevTools panel. Injection only occurs when you explicitly click "Start Recording". No scripts are injected passively.
webRequest / webRequestBlocking
Used exclusively by the Network Mock Studio to intercept network requests and return mock responses when you have active mock rules configured. This only activates when you have at least one mock rule enabled in the panel. No request data is stored, logged, or transmitted.
devtools
Enables the Extension to appear as a panel in Chrome DevTools. Required for all DevTools extensions. Has no data access capabilities on its own.

5. Local Storage

The Extension uses chrome.storage.local to save your work between sessions. This includes:

  • Recorded test scripts you have created
  • Network mock rules you have configured
  • Extension UI preferences (theme, panel layout)

This data is stored only on your local device. It is not encrypted at rest (Chrome storage is protected by OS-level user account isolation). You can delete all stored data by uninstalling the Extension or going to chrome://extensions → Playwright Studio → Details → Clear site data.

6. Third-Party Services

Playwright Studio does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The Extension makes no outbound network requests of its own. The only network activity caused by the Extension is:

  • Serving mock responses you have configured in the Network Mock Studio (these go to the website you are testing, not to our servers)
  • Executing test scripts you have created against URLs you specify

7. Children's Privacy

Playwright Studio is a developer tool intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect any information from users under the age of 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@aiqeacademy.com.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and update the Extension listing in the Chrome Web Store. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Given that the Extension does not collect data, we anticipate very few changes. Any changes will be in the direction of increased transparency.

9. Your Rights

Because we do not collect personal data, most data subject rights (access, deletion, portability) are satisfied by the fact that no data exists on our side. However:

  • Delete local data: Uninstall the Extension or clear its data via chrome://extensions
  • Questions or concerns: Email privacy@aiqeacademy.com
  • California residents (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. There is no personal information to request or delete on our servers.
  • EU/UK residents (GDPR): We are not a data controller for personal data since we do not process any. If you believe otherwise, contact us.

10. Open Source

The source code for Playwright Studio is available for inspection. Technical users are encouraged to review the code to verify the privacy claims made in this policy. Contact privacy@aiqeacademy.com for repository access.
